Yorkshire Holiday July 2000 - page 2
On the second half of our holiday in Yorkshire we
walked part of the coastal Cleveland Way trail between Ravenscar and
Robin Hood's Bay, went shopping at the McGlen Factory Outlet in York
and enjoyed a car-free day with a local countryside walk from our
Yorkshire holiday cottage base in Grafton.
This is page two of two.

By day 3 we hadn't yet done a Yorkshire walk so we headed out to walk
part of The Cleveland Way, starting at Ravenscar. Ravenscar is
known as 'the town that never was'. It was...
|

...quite a distance to Ravenscar so as soon as we arrived we ate our
picnic lunch. The town's in the background - yes, that's it, see
our Yorkshire links to check
out Ravenscar's sad history.
|

We hadn't walked far along The Cleveland Way before we were rewarded
with this magnificent view across to Robin Hood's Bay, unplagued by sea
fret.
|

It's not far then, so Mike strode ahead setting the pace. The
track runs along the crumbling cliff top at points, which was a bit
worrying!
|

We didn't arrive in Robin Hood's Bay town until late afternoon and only
just in time for a refreshing coffee before closing. The town
used to be a quiet fishing port, but now tourism is the main industry.
|

Our poor feet! It turned out to be quite a trek along The
Cleveland Way, it was getting late on our return to the car at
Ravenscar and we still had a fair drive ahead across Yorkshire back to
the Grafton cottage.
|

Mike's a happy chappy as he announces to camera that they're back in
York, this time for a shopping trip to the McArthur Glen factory outlet
with 70% off! Wow, let us in there! The shopping...
|

...outlet featured all the usual stores and could be 'anywheresville'
apart from a few individual shops. Mike bought some new trainers
at McArthur Glen and Belinda got the sort of stuff women like!
|

Time for a local evening pub meal, it just so happened there was such a
place a short walk up the road from the Grafton holiday cottage in
Yorkshire.
|

Our final day then, and another Yorkshire walk and a local one from the
cottage across the Dales. The weather didn't look too good, but
what the heck...
|

...and... uh-oh, of course we got our second Yorkshire soaking of the
week as we crossed this field at the same time as that nasty horrible
rain cloud!
|

So another pub meal to round off our enjoyable Yorkshire holiday, in
Boroughbridge this time, and an excellent meal it was too.
|

Time to head home after a wet and cold, but nonetheless happy holiday
week in Yorkshire.
