Yorkshire Holiday July 2000 - page 2
On the second half of our Yorkshire holiday we walked
part of the coastal Cleveland Way between Ravenscar and Robin Hood's
Bay, did some shopping at the McGlen Factory Outlet in York and enjoyed
a car-free day with a local walk around Grafton from the holiday
cottage.
This is page two of two.

By day 3 we hadn't yet done a Yorkshire walk so we headed out to walk
part of The Cleveland Way, starting at Ravenscar. Ravenscar is
known as 'the town that never was'.
|

It was quite a distance to Ravenscar so as soon as we arrived we ate
our picnic lunch. The town's in the background, see the Yorkshire links to check out
Ravenscar's history.
|
|

We hadn't walked far along The Cleveland Way before we were rewarded
with this magnificent view across to Robin Hood's Bay, unplagued by sea
fret.
|

It's not far then, so Mike strides ahead setting the pace. The
track runs along the crumbling cliff top at points, which was a bit
worrying!
|
|

We didn't arrive in Robin Hood's Bay town until late afternoon and only
just in time for a coffee before closing. The town used to be a
quiet fishing port, but now tourism is the main industry.
|

Our poor feet! It turned out to be quite a trek along The
Cleveland Way, it was getting late on our return to the car at
Ravenscar and we still had a fair drive ahead across Yorkshire back to
the Grafton cottage.
|
|

Mike's a happy chappy as he announces to camera that they're back in
York, this time for a shopping trip to the McArthur Glen factory outlet
with 70% off! Wow, let us in there!
|

The shopping outlet has all the usual shops and could be
'anywheresville' apart from a few individual shops. Mike got some
new trainers at McArthur Glen and Belinda some 'women's stuff'.
|
|

Time for a local evening pub meal, it just so happened there was such a
place a short walk up the road from the Grafton holiday cottage in
Yorkshire.
|

Our final day then, and another Yorkshire walk and a local one from the
cottage across the Dales. The weather didn't look too good, but
what the heck...
|
|

This is just before we got our second soaking of the week and shows the
result of Belinda scaring all the sheep from the field.
|

Another pub meal to round off our Yorkshire holiday, in Boroughbridge
this time, and an excellent meal it was too.
|
|

Time to head home after a wet and cold, but nonetheless happy holiday
week in Yorkshire.
